Biyyiah A. Lee, MSN, RN, PAHM

Biyyiah Lee is a Chicago, Illinois native, University of Michigan - Ann Arbor Alumna, and a current registered nurse in Detroit, Michigan. With over 10 years of nursing experience, she has worked in a variety of healthcare settings including ambulatory care, private duty nursing, home health, care coordination, and utilization management. These roles have provided her with valuable patient care experience with a variety of patient populations, including the elderly as well as patients with spinal cord injuries, all known supporters and consumers of cannabis as alternative medical therapy. 

She is a member of the American Nurses Association, the National Black Nurses Association, American Cannabis Nurses Association, Cannabis Nurses Network, Society of Cannabis Clinicians, and Minorities for Medical Marijuana. Locally, she engages in various public service organizations enabling her development into a well-rounded servant leader who has successfully overseen a myriad of different community service and fundraising initiatives. Biyyiah serves as a board member for CAAN Academy of Nursing in Matteson, Illinois and Higher Learning Institutions in Pontiac, Michigan. 

Through several graduate-level leadership, research and advocacy training, and continuing education courses, she has become a proficient and active cannabis advocate. She recently obtained a Masters Degree in Advanced Public Health Nursing and practices in the areas where cannabis and public health overlap. She has was selected to participate in the 2021 Cohort of the Ambrose Scholars program with a focus on policy to address the gaps in cannabis education among healthcare providers.  To date, she has taken part in several State and City run initiatives and workgroups related to adult use (recreational) marijuana implementation and related social equity considerations. Biyyiah has also obtained a certificate as a Medical Cannabis Consultant to further her efforts in promoting the safe and effective consumption of cannabis. She has been recognized as a 2021 Under 40 Awardee and as a 40 under 40 emerging nurse leader for her cannabis education and advocacy by the National Black Nurses Association and the Illinois Nurses Foundation, respectively.

 

Lastly, she is the co-founder of Midwest CannaNurses™, an educational consulting company based in Detroit, MI that is dedicated to promoting the recognition of cannabis as plant based therapy in diverse settings through education and advocacy.
